Today's Reading: Colossians 2:16-23
I don't like religion, and I don't understand religious people. You know what religion is, right? It's man's attempt to define God. In other words, religion is how we as people understand who God is, and who we are in His creation. The problem is, religion's usually inaccurate. That's because man understands God less than an ant understands Algebra.
That is why God gave us the Bible. If we take the whole book, use its scriptures in context, and ask God to open our spiritual eyes to His spiritual message, then there is no need for religion. In the Bible, God defines Himself.
Paul knew religious people in his lifetime. He warned the church at Colosse that they had an appearance of wisdom, as well as a false humility, but they followed the doctrines of men. They kept religious festivals, abstained from certain foods, and worshipped angels. But they failed to worship the Head of the Church, Jesus Christ. So they were not spiritually connected to Christ.
