Today's Reading: Genesis 25:20-34
Greed is like acid. It eats away at trust until there is nothing left. This is exactly what happened to Jacob. In today's reading, Jacob purchases Esau's birthright for a bowl of lentils. Jacob put his own desires over his brother's need for food.
Esau is equally to blame. From his persective, a bowl of lentils is more important than his birthright. As the first born, he is the heir of his father's house, but Esau chooses to be fed, rather than be blessed.
Often, our needs are replaced by our wants and we become greedy. Our priorities shift, and we only see things from our point of view. God however wants us to consider each other first, and to be content with what He has blessed us.
God bless, and please feel free to comment.
