Today's Reading: 1 Timothy 6:12
"Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses."
This is one of my favorite scriptures. It describes what faith truly is: a fight. We daily stand up against the world and its way of life, and stand firm in our beliefs. It is a common part of every Christian's life.
We also lay hold on eternal life. "Laying hold" means to physically grab, and not release, something. Here, we see the scriptures draw a picture of how we should treat the gift of salvation. By laying hold, we claim possession of our relationship with the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
